Strange to my pictures of the day plastered on their site as the bar brand heading each page. Whereas graphically interesting to them, so funny for me to imagine a wall of a million of my stories doing something as commercial as branding a website.

There’s a huge Balkan music and dance festival this Friday and Saturday called the Golden Fest. My a Capella quartet, Black Sea Hotel is performing there at 10pm on Sat night. If you are interested in attending, see here.
Directly after the Babeland performance tonight, at 7:20pm, I will be rushing up the street to speak at the Win-Initiative Take 5 event. Hans Neleman, the founder of WIN and Take 5, will once again bring together 5 photographers/ industry professionals to talk about their work for 5 minutes each. The event is set up to generate discussion about current industry trends and more simply to view and enjoy other artists work while sipping on wine and nibbling hors d’oeuvres. There is also live music. The first Take 5 event last month was a success- good conversation all around. Next month, I will be staging another mini Tableau Vivant. The event is invite only, so if this peeks your interest, go to the WIN website to inquire about attending next month. For those of you who are curious about tonight’s event, it will be streaming live online.
In just a few hours, Babeland will be holding a launch party for their new coffee table book, Moregasm, for which I shot all the photography, last spring. What a fun job that was! The models were fabulous- open, expressive, filled with giggling energy. We had a great time.
At the launch party tonight, I will be exhibiting photographs as well as staging a mini-Tableau Vivant as an experiment geared towards my upcoming Tableau Vivant. The theme of this night’s performance will be geared towards the playful sensuality of the coffee table book it will be celebrating, but will inevitably also reflect some of themes of my ongoing photography series, The Delirium Constructions. Music will be provided by Black Sea Hotel as well as by me from some surprise tracks I have created in garage band and logic over the years. Here’s a NY Press nod to Tableau Vivant.

I want to mention 3 people whom I’ve been thinking about a lot lately who influenced my
creative world when I was growing up.
1) Karen Keating, my high school photography teacher, just received an honorable mention
for The Santa Fe Excellence in Teaching Award. I nominated her a few
months ago and am so thrilled that she has received this honor. Karen guided me through
such interesting creative and personal challenges when I was a teenager. It was wonderful
to see her recently and catch up. She changed my life. Here’s a link to some photos I shot
throughout high school when I was in Karen’s class.
2) Al Decredico was my drawing teacher at RISD. I’m terrible drawer. Just horrible. He let me take photos in his class, but critiqued them as if they were drawings. I absorbed such interesting creative lessons in his classroom. His teaching approach was unique and will stick with me forever. I found out yesterday that he has recently passed away. I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything, Al. You will be remembered.
3) Two weeks ago, I learned from the news that Casey Johnson has also passed away. I
am so sad and shocked to see how she was portrayed in the media now. I haven’t known at
all her for 16 years and I had no idea she even had a public identity or anything, so I really
know nothing other than my memories. But to honor who I once knew. I want to say that
Casey was full of life and high-energy, silliness, creativity, and kindness. Casey was my
first photographic muse (who wasn’t my sister) and close friend for a summer at Colby
College’s high-school art program when we were 14 years old. She inspired me
tremendously and I wanted to share this publicly since most of what I read and watched
about her in the news was not so kind. I’m not sure what happened. Life is so strange. This
is her when I knew her.
I was just in Tanzania on a safari. It was extraordinary.
Here are some zebras on a hill. I’ll be posting more pictures soon.
