I have a real nerve saying that, huh?! I mean… honestly.

But for real, here’re the 3 Sarah Small related Events/Parties you can come to this Thursday JUNE 4th.
I’m laughing a little as I type…

1) JUNE 4TH—– FIRST, there’s the POLAROID PARTY EXHIBITION. Curator Marshall Kappel has compiled an exhibition in Dumbo of all Polaroid-based artists. For the very first time I am showcasing a selection of Polaroids from my life-long diaristic Polaroid-A-Day Project now at it’s 12-year mark. I’m showing a grid 13 rows high of182 representative days.

Unfortunately, I will not be attending the Polaroid Party, because I will be sound-checking for my Record Release at Union Pool. If you do attend the Polaroid Party, please take pictures for me and collect comments BEFORE heading over to Union Pool where I WILL SING TO YOU this same night… (with the other lovely members of my group- lullabies and village cries- you will see)

2) JUNE 4TH also—— You should LEAVE the Polaroid Party BY 8PM, so you can make it to Williamsburg by 9PM SHARP for the RECORD RELEASE PARTY of my Bulgarian a Cappella Quartet called Black Sea Hotel. We’re throwing a huge Party from 9pm-12midnight at Union Pool. We start 9pm sharp and are followed by unique/ super-weird/entrancing high-energy wildly musical performances by Sxip Shirey, Veveritse Brass Band, and Stumblebum Brass Band. I’m simply thrilled to have all of them on the bill with us! For those of you who’ve not yet seen us live, we sing a Cappella 4-part harmony original arrangements of Bulgarian and Macedonian melodies and we wear black and huge flowers in our hair.

Bring a specialty baked goods item if you want to make me and my band really happy. We’re having a bake sale at the bar!

I’ve been selected by an Italian organization called International Talent Support (ITS) as 1 of 2 American Finalists out of submissions from 65 counties. We will be FLOWN TO TRIESTE, ITALY! this July for an exhibition, award ceremony, and a chance to win the grand prize of 10,000 Euros. This is sponsored by MINI (those little cars). The other American Finalist, Elizabeth Eiten, and I will be flying into Venice on July 8th – I’m hoping that one of you on my list has family or friends there who may want to walk us around the city? Let me know if you have thoughts. I haven’t been there since I was 15 years old when I took these photos of my sister Rachel.

If you haven’t yet checked out the show WILD THINGS: Photography for Animal Lovers at Stricola Contemporary, you definitely should before the end of the week when it comes down. HANDS DOWN, I can say it is my favorite group show I’ve ever been a part of. I love all the work displayed and wish I could own most of the prints. This is also a good opportunity to see 3 of my pieces displayed just how they should be- mounted face to plexi at my larger edition size of 27×40. Want one? Here’re a few photos from the opening. The first one is of me, Laura (one of my models), and Greg Garry, the Curator. The others show you my pieces in context and some of the rest of the show.

I’ve been chosen as a 2009 Xto Nude Image Finalist I’ll have my piece exhibited at Farmani Gallery in Dumbo. The opening Reception is July 9th 6-8:30 at 11 Front Street. Unfortunately I will not be in attendance, as I will be away in Trieste. If you do attend, please share the news with me if you think of it.

I’m a Nominee out of entries from 92 countries by The Color Awards in the 3rd Annual Photography Master’s Cup. These were the Judges. Not sure when the final winners are announced.

Here’s a photo I’d like to share. Though this picture’s from last summer, I’ve just grown fond of it this month and released it to my website at image number 44 in the portfolio section. It’s called Wilson Pickering Freich. These are last names and members from each of these 3 families are represented here.
